I can’t help but think that the problem with the show is not the premise (which is great) or the actors (who are all pretty good) but the network that it’s on. USA is very ‘middle America’-centric and skews toward an older audience. The self-contained nature of the episodes speaks volumes - That they don’t want to alienate a potential audience by building the story; weaving a tapestry too thick for casual viewers to wade through. This is, ultimately, the downfall of what should be a much more worthwhile television show.
I only wish that this had been picked up by HBO, Showtime or FX.
